A message from CCBOE:
Carter County 2025-2026 graduation dates have been set by the CCBOE for May 22 @ 7:00 pm (ECHS) and May 23 @10:00 am (WCHS).
The last day of school is tentatively set for May 29.
Graduation is set for Memorial Day weekend because we have had many families express how that weekend was convenient for family get togethers, cookouts, etc.
We will be sending out a poll to determine preferences for future graduation dates after the 2025-2026 graduations.
A note from Mr. Moore:
On the morning of Tuesday, March 17th, all WCHS 11th graders will be participating in a 3-hour SAT Math "Bootcamp" focused on calculator skills and test taking skills that our staff found to be useful during the SAT practice exam 2 weeks ago. Students will be divided by their AA classes and rotate between all our math teachers. Juniors, bring your school-issued Chromebook and a pencil!
Mrs. Purvis and her art seniors went to high school art day at MSU for the Burley-Coal Regional High School Exhibition. Students got to display their work in a professional gallery setting and participate in numerous workshops. Zander Lowe received 1st place in sculpture and 3rd place in Mixed media. Makkala Melvin received 2nd place in Painting and honorable mention in Drawing. Ava Reynolds received honorable mention in printmaking. Dawson Hayes received honorable mention in Drawing. Zander’s sculpture “Punk” and Makkala’s painting “Banana Peanut Butter Honey Toast” will both be going to the state show in May.
Kaden Rogers, Skylar Gearhart, & Malory Rainey have been accepted into Craft Academy for Excellence in Science and Mathematics at Morehead State University. This is an on-campus, residential dual-enrollment academy for exceptionally gifted high school junior and seniors! Our students will earn 60 college-credit hours by graduation along with a residential experience at Morehead State University. We are so proud of these students! Congratulations!

Congratulations to Senior Cheerleader Aubrey Cox!! Aubrey was presented 2 KAPOS scholarships at the Boys Regional Tournament championship game last night! Who says cheering doesn’t pay…. $1250!!! Way to go!!!!
We want to congratulate Abigail Tackett and Mackenzie Kelley who competed in the High Q Competition for Talent Search on 2/27/26. There team won first place!!!!

JUNIORS!
SAT Readiness Check
In preparation for the upcoming State Junior SAT, you will be conducting a Readiness Check to make sure your Chromebook is ready for the SAT. Please charge your school-issued Chromebook this week. Our Readiness Check will be this Thursday, March 5th. During the readiness check all juniors will be able to make sure their device is ready, complete pretesting setup, preview features, confirm information, opt into College Board's BigFuture School, and send scores. You will also be completing the practice SAT.
The location you need to be this Thursday and during SAT will be posted around the school. Please look for this list to know where you should be during these days.
The SAT is on March 19th.

From CCBOE: Carter County Schools will operate on the same schedule for Friday (Feb 13, 2026) as we did today (2 hour delay and revised bus route). If there are any additional changes to the bus routes the driver will communicate directly with families. This is to allow more daylight to be able to safely see road surfaces and any icy spots.

From CCBOE: Bus 79 route time has been corrected (Greenbrier Rd meet at the end of the road at 8:10 and Jones Branch meet at the end of the road at 8:40). Corrected images attached.
From CCBOE: I apologize for the late post but we have been working on a plan for tomorrow, Thursday February 12, 2026. Our plan is to operate on a 2 hour delay with modified bus routes detailed in the pictures I am sharing in text, email and Facebook. HOWEVER, families need to have a "backup" plan in case we have significant refreezing of roads. We will make the final decision as close to 7:00 a.m. as possible but it may not be before then. We need to check our routes again which is the purpose of the 2 hour delay. Student and staff safety is my priority and will be the basis for the final decision in the morning.
From CCBOE: Tomorrow, Wednesday 2.11.26 will be a snow day for Carter County Schools (KY). Bus routes remain icy and there are not adequate places for bus turnarounds. Freezing temps tonight add to our concern.
