The sunshine just didn't happen today and side roads/bus turnarounds are just not safe enough to have school. Therefore on February 10, 2026 Carter County Schools (KY) are having NTI Day #10. This will conclude our NTI days so students should have all NTI work completed after tomorrow.

Monday February 9, 2026 will be an NTI day for Carter County schools. All staff, if able, should report to their schools to plan and prepare for students to return on Tuesday. We will be looking at roads tomorrow as the temperature warms. Our Monday communication will share bus transportation information and any roads buses will not be able to travel.

Friday February 6, 2026 will be a traditional snow day for Carter County Schools (KY). Side roads are still snow and ice covered and there is a forecast for more snow during the daytime hours tomorrow.

Carter County Schools (Ky) will have a traditional snow day on Thursday Feb 5, 2026.

Due to ice covered side roads and the forecasted potential for more snow and wintry mix tomorrow, Carter County (KY) Schools will have a traditional snow day tomorrow, February 3, 2026.

Carter County's L3 committee (Excellence Alliance) will not be meeting on Wednesday at 5:00 due to road conditions and weather forecast. A new meeting date will be shared.

With the continued freezing temperatures, ice covered parking lots and snow and ice covered roads, Carter County (KY) will have a traditional snow day again on Monday February 2, 2026. The road conditions are just too unsafe. Please stay warm and safe.

Due to road conditions, there will be no school in Carter County (KY) on Wednesday January 28, 2026. This will be a traditional snow day. Please stay safe and warm.

As winter weather continues with snow, ice, freezing rain and sleet, Carter County Schools (Ky) will be closed on Monday January 26 and Tuesday January 27, 2026. These will be NTI days. Please stay safe and warm. We will continue to share updates as conditions change.

Due to black ice especially on side roads across the county Carter County Schools will be on NTI day today Thursday January 22. The special SBDM meeting for Star and Carter City at 5 pm will still meet.

The fire department determined that the smoke at Heritage was from an exhaust motor and it has been resolved. All students are back in the building, finishing lunch and returning to class. Thank you to everyone who responded to this incident including our amazing staff who kept students safe, transportation staff who brought buses, and first responders.

The 2026-2027 School Calendar was approved at the January board of education meeting.

Tomorrow, Friday January 16, 2026, school will be canceled in Carter County due to illness. This is NOT an NTI day. We have large numbers of staff and students out and local health providers have indicated flu and Covid numbers are high. Elementary basketball Saturday is canceled. District athletics and academics will still be played because they either cannot be made up or there is too much unpredictability in possibility of scheduling. Also, as a reminder, we do not have school Monday in observance of Martin Luther King Jr day. Please use this long weekend to rest and get well.
