Training Drill at East Carter High School

Local law enforcement, fire departments, EMS, and Air Evacuation agencies will conduct a training exercise at East Carter High School tomorrow (April 23) at 10:00 AM. This is a multi-agency response exercise for prom safety and DUI awareness. There will be a large presence of emergency vehicles and personnel.

This drill helps prepare first responders and educates students about the dangers of drunk driving, especially with upcoming events such as prom and graduation.

Just a reminder that the Celebrate the Child event will be held this evening at Olive Hill Elementary School from 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM.

We are SO CLOSE to our goal of 80% return of the permissions for students to participate in the Pathfinder Survey...so the deadline has been extended until April 10 (that's THIS FRIDAY) for those. For the East side, there will not be a 1st run for Bus #8. They will all be on the 2nd run.

Also, Bus #22 and Bus #14 will be combined and will be on Bus #14.

Mark your calendars for the Carter County Family Resource and Youth Service Centers Celebrate the Child event, Feelings in Full Color!

The free event will be held on Tuesday, April 7, at Olive Hill Elementary, from 5:30 - 7:00. The guest speaker will be Miss September Caudill and friends. There will be a vendor/resource fair, a petting zoo, free refreshments, and more!

📣⏰Parents and Guardians - TOMORROW is the last day to grant your child permission to participate in the Pathfinder Coalition's anonymous student survey. This opportunity is open to students in grades 7-12 at ECMS, WCMS, ECHS, and WCHS. Complete this permission slip TODAY! We have a goal of 80% student participation, and we still need your help! Bus #75 route will no longer exist. This route will be picked up by other buses.

Morning Route:
Students on McGlone Creek and Cedar Run will be picked up by Bus #93.

Afternoon Route--Students From WCMS and WCHS that live in the Carter City area on McGlone Creek, Cedar Run, State Route 182, Jordan Fork, Sand Ridge Rd., Sutton Rd., Wolfe Rd. will ride Bus #97 (Bruce Tilsley).
Bus #97 will drop its normal students, as well as, shuttle to Bus #77 (Stanley Belcher) and Bus #93 (Lora Speakman).

Bus#97 Morning Route: No Change

Bus#97 Evening Route: Carter City Area Students from West Middle and West High that live on Cedar Run, McGlone Creek, Jordan Fork, State Route 182, Sand Ridge, Sutton Rd., and Wolfe Rd., will ride Bus #97. Bus #97 will transport its normal students home and shuttle students to Bus #77 and Bus #93.

As part of our commitment to student safety, accountability and equitable access to all school services, Carter County Schools will be updating transportation procedures for students attending the Carter County Career and Technical Center (3CTC).

Beginning April 6, 2026 all students attending 3CTC will be required to ride district-provided school bus transportation to and from the 3CTC during the school day. Those students who are hybrid CVA and 3CTC must ride the bus from their regularly assigned high school to and from the 3CTC.

This change is being made to:
Improve student safety by ensuring all students are under school supervision during the instructional day.
Strengthen attendance and accountability during transitions between campuses.
Maximize instructional time and reduce missed class time.
Ensure access to school services including food service and student supports.
Create consistency and fairness across all student groups.

We understand this is a shift from past practice. However, this expectation aligns with our responsibility to provide a safe, structured, and equitable learning environment for all students.

Principals will communicate any information students need about bus details.

To ensure the safety and well-being of all students, we are implementing consistent procedures regarding beverages brought from home. Some of our schools already follow these procedures, but we need consistent safety measures across the district.

Effective beginning Monday (March 23, 2026):
-All store-bought beverages must remain unopened and retain their original factory seal upon arrival at school.
-Reusable containers (e.g., Stanley cups, Owala bottles, etc.) must be empty when students arrive. Students may then use our bottle filling stations to fill their container.
-Opened or non-sealed containers are not permitted.

Please note that these procedures apply to all students and are in place to ensure student safety and consistency across our schools, help us maintain a safe school environment, and to prevent the presence of any unknown or potentially unsafe substances on campuses.
