Good afternoon! Carter County middle and high schools have an exciting opportunity to partner with local groups (Pathfinder Initiative, Fiscal Court, and the Health Department) to work toward providing our students with the means to find positive ways to get involved in the community as a means to prevent substance use. One step in this process is for students in grades 7-12 to complete a survey that asks questions regarding their adolescent experience. The full explanation of the survey can be found by clicking on the links below for your child's school. Please consider allowing your student to participate in this survey!

The permission slip has to be completed for each child to participate, so please complete for all children in your home. This is for students in grades 7-12 and there is a form that is specific for each middle and high school linked below. Thank you for your cooperation in helping us to work with our community to support our young people!

Carter County Schools will operate on a one-hour delay tomorrow (Wednesday Dec. 3) morning. This extra time will allow for more daylight so our drivers can clearly see the roads and ensure everyone arrives safely. Thank you for your flexibility and understanding as we try to make decisions that prioritize student and staff safety. It is our hope to see everyone back at school tomorrow with their NTI Day 1 work completed and ready to learn!!

Due to hazardous road conditions and forecasted continued winter weather, Carter County Schools will be closed today 12/2/25 with today being NTI Day 1. Students should follow the instructions given by teachers to complete today's assignments. Staff should follow directions given by principal/supervisor with staff reporting to school workstations if their road conditions permit. Staff should be in communication with their principal/supervisor. Safety of students and staff is our priority.

Due to a heat issue at West Middle, we need to dismiss all schools at 1:00 pm today. All students will have lunch. If West Middle families would like to pick up their child(ren) early, that is acceptable. Current temps in WCMS vary but it is running in 55-60 degree range. Buses will run normal routes beginning at 1:00 pm.

Thanksgiving Break is next week! There is no school November 24-28, 2025.

East Middle buses will run as normal. They could be just a little late. Any parent who normally picks up their child just needs to wait until 3:30.

East Carter Middle School families who pick up their children after school need to POSTPONE pickup until 3:30. You will need to take Interstate Drive to the Grayson Sports Park. Turn left when you enter the Sports Park parking lot and park in the main parking area and staff will walk students over to the lot. Please do not try to come pick up students early because the parking lot is blocked with fire trucks, police and water lines. It will hinder the emergency response to respond in any other way. Thank you for your understanding.

There is a structure fire across from East Carter Middle School. Our students are safe. Our staff are even helping the families who had to leave their home abruptly. I will be communicating more as info becomes available to me.

West Carter Middle School is currently accepting applications for a Middle School Volleyball Coach. We are looking for a motivated, student-centered leader who is passionate about developing athletes both on and off the court.

You can submit an application tomorrow from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM or on Friday from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM. at either the First Church of Christ Gymnasium in Grayson (3rd and Pomeroy Streets) or at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall in Olive Hill (365 E. Tom T. Hall Blvd.).

This is Family and Community Engagement Week and we want to congratulate Heritage Elementary, Prichard Elementary and Tygart Creek Elementary Schools who were recognized in Frankfort today for earning the Family Friendly Schools certification.

Through an application process, this certification highlights schools that demonstrate an ongoing commitment to creating welcoming environments, building family and community partnerships, and ensuring that students and families feel valued, connected, and empowered to support student success.

Happy World Kindness Day! Students who were seen being kind to others were given a Gold Surprise today. This afternoon there was an accident involving Bus 73 on Rt 2 in Olive Hill. All students were checked out to their families. There were no injuries to students. The driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital to be checked out. Our Maintenance and Transportation Director, school and district administrators as well as our SROs responded immediately and ensured student and staff wellbeing was the first priority.

Road conditions have improved and the sunshine continues to help! Sticking with the 2 hour delay for today.
