Carter County Schools Closing Due to Covid-19
March 13, 2020
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Following Governor Andy Beshear's press conference yesterday evening, Carter County Schools announced its closure beginning Monday, March 16 through Friday, March 27. Spring Break is scheduled March 30 - April 3. As of today, school will be back in session on Monday, April 6. The COVID-19 pandemic is a unique situation for the entire country and we will continue to monitor it closely. Despite school closure, we are committed to providing support for our students and families. If you have any questions or concerns our schools and offices will be open and you can call anytime between 9:00 A.M. and 2:00 P.M.
Timeline and Delivery of Instruction
We will be utilizing 10 Non-Traditional Instruction (NTI) days. The NTI program allows for the continuation of academic instruction on days when school is cancelled. The district has created plans to deliver instruction to every student and provide for student and teacher interaction on NTI days, with the ultimate goal of continuing instruction. The Commissioner of Education has accepted our application and will waive 10 NTI days to count towards student attendance days. This means that we will not have to make up these 10 days.
Today at school, students will receive assignments for the next two weeks. Students in Kindergarten - 2nd grade will be given paper packets. Students in grades 3-12 will be given assignments through Google Classroom. Paper packets are available for any student who does not have reliable internet service.
If a child is absent from school today, packets/assignments may be picked up in their school's office next week, March 16-20, from 9:00 A.M. - 2:00 P.M.
Teachers will be available to assist students March 16-20 & March 23-27 from 9:00 A.M. - 2:00 P.M. Contact information was provided with the packet.

On behalf of the Carter County Board of Education, I would like to thank our families and community for their flexibility and support. This has been an interesting situation and our hope is that cancellations will reduce the spread of the virus. I encourage you to stay informed and heed the guidelines set forth by the CDC.
